Gigaphoton is approaching the 18th anniversary of its foundation. Under its new management system, Gigaphoton will accelerate its development of EUV light sources – the next generation of lithographic light sources – while ensuring its position as industry leader in excimer lasers for use in lithography. It will also continue to enthusiastically engage in its new project, started in fiscal 2016, to apply existing technologies to new fields. With these three projects at the center, Gigaphoton’s goal is to grow even further, together with its customers and suppliers.
Chairman of the Board
Hitoshi Tomaru was appointed Chairman of the Board in April 2017. After joining Komatsu in 1982, he served as General Manager of the Excimer Laser Development Division in 2000. He has participated in the administration of Gigaphoton since its foundation, and served in a succession of posts including General Manager of the Development Division, General Manager of the Production Division, President of Gigaphoton USA, General Manager of the Sales Division, and, from April 2012 to March 2017, President and CEO of Gigaphoton. He will continue to participate in the administration of the company as Chairman.
President & CEO
Katsumi Uranaka was appointed President & CEO in April 2017. Uranaka joined Komatsu Ltd. in 1984 where he was in charge of manufacturing and engineering of construction machinery components. After the foundation of Gigaphoton, he served as a General Manager of the Production Division. After being appointed to a director in June 2012, he served as General Manager of the Global Subsidiaries Management Division and the Corporate Planning Division, and has worked vigorously for the company’s principle of “providing products with the best technology and quality.” As President & CEO, his goal is for Gigaphoton to continue to grow together with its customers and suppliers, and he will strive wholeheartedly toward that goal.
Vice President & CTO
Hakaru Mizoguchi was appointed Vice President & CTO in April 2012. After joining Komatsu in 1982, he was fully involved in the development of the CO2 laser. For two years from 1988 he was involved in excimer laser technology research as a guest researcher at the Max Planck Research Institute in Göttingen, Germany. He then obtained a doctorate from Kyushu University, and in 1998 was appointed General Manager of the Laser Research Department, Research Center, where he played a central role in research on excimer lasers in Japan. Mizoguchi has been a part of Gigaphoton’s management since its foundation, serving as General Manager of the Research Division, General Manager of the Development Division, General Manager of Customer Support Division, and Director and CTO. He has promoted research and development of the KrF, ArF, and F2 laser light sources and of EUV light sources for photolithography. Since April 2017 he has been in charge of research and intellectual property, and engaged in promoting the company’s cutting-edge technological development as General Manager of the Research Division.

Senior Executive Officer
Hideichi Sato was appointed a director in June 2011. Sato joined Komatsu Ltd. in 1983, where he gained experience in a wide range of tasks including R&D and sales. Sato has participated in the management of Gigaphoton since its foundation, and has served as General Manager of the Product Planning Division, the Corporate Planning and Management Division, the General Administration Division, the Corporate Planning Division, etc. Since April 2017 he has been in charge of promoting reform and software & service integration, as well as participating in the management of the company as CIO and General Manager of the Reform Promotion Division.
Senior Executive Officer
Satoru Tanaka was appointed a director of the company in June 2015. Tanaka joined Komatsu Ltd. in 1980, where, after being in charge of accounting, finance, and management, he served as General Manager of the Accounting Division and Vice President of Komatsu Indonesia. From April 2017, he has been in charge of management and general affairs, and participated in the administration of Gigaphoton as CFO and General Manager of the Control Division.
